My first 20 years in testing. Passion for Quality
Abstract: Looking back on my career, I think that the unifying thread in my 20 years in Software Testing is my passion for testing and quality. Already in my first years as a software engineer I volunteered to join the Software Process Improvement initiative (SPI) in our department. Even today, improving the way of working in our Qualification Team at ASML is part of my job and ambition. In parallel, also the Testing Profession itself evolved. I will use my own experience and the development of the Testing Profession in this presentation to show you the major milestones that have changed Testing into the profession it is today. I think that this background, historical perspective and milestones are crucial for every tester to take along in their own development and understanding our profession. For example: why is it important to be certified as a tester and is such a certificate still relevant nowadays? What are the main differences between a structured testing process and Agile testing? What’s the difference between being a tester today and testing 20 years ago? I think that we can learn a lot of lessons from the past, but I also think it’s important to look at the present and the future: what do we expect from our future testing colleagues?
