First PresentationTitle of presentation: Mon IA sera-t-elle éthique ou pathétique?
Day of presentation: 15 April 2021
Time (CET): 14:00
Language: French
Abstract:

Day of presentation: 15 April 2021

Abstract:
AI is becoming more and more a part of our life, whether we like it or not, whether we know it or not.
AI-based systems are already scrutinizing our data to profile us and offer the best or more suitable products and services to us…in theory at least.
Feeding from big data, commercial AI solutions become a helper to determine the risk we take or the risk we might be for others; they interfere with your insurance fees, court decisions, driving, medical checkup, school results, job interviews, employee performance and school or exam results…
But what if they fail? What is the role we must play, as IT-ers and QA-ers from an ethical perspective?

Title of presentation: Keynote: The Next Generation Tester: Meeting the Challenges of a Changing IT World
Day of presentation: 14 April 2021
Time (CET): 09:00
Language: English
Abstract:
This presentation looks at the future of the professional software tester and how it must adapt to the demands placed on it by a wide range of technological and business factors. By developing an outline for a “Next Generation (NG) Tester” the presentation reflects on the future skills set of the professional software tester. This must evolve by bringing testers closer to their stakeholders in their day-to-day work and enabling them to cope with changes in IT and project life-cycles. Without adapting to this demand, the tester as a profession runs the risk of losing its relevance!
The presentation starts by identifying the key developments in IT which satisfy the demands of business for shorter delivery cycles, better cost effectiveness and increased flexibility. These changes enable business to stay competitive and include significant advances in the digitalization of Industry (“Internet of Things”), increased use of mobile solutions and the adoption of robotics and AI/Knowledge-based concepts. In addition to the technology-driven factors, different ways of working such as Agile and DevOps have been steadily adopted as development life-cycle models. Each of these factors is described and the impact on testing outlined.
In its response to these issues, testing requires increased levels of test automation supported by frameworks and integrated tool sets, the modelling of requirements for “seemless” test automation (Model-Based Testing) and the adoption of test processes which are better aligned to Agile and DevOps development life-cycle models.
Examples are given for each of these aspects based on the presenter’s insights into the current-day practices being adopted by industry.
The testing community (be it at overall industry level or within the organization or project) must now agree on what it considers to be good testing practice. This will have an impact (amongst others) on test processes, testing strategies and the tester’s contribution to quality engineering. It will also require the definition of an expanded skill set for the proposed NG Tester role which builds on the current tester role. A summary of this skill set is provided to support these discussions.
The presentation concludes with some suggestions on how the adoption of new skills can be enabled. This focusses not only on training and certification possibilities, but also on the overall approach we should consider in helping people make the transition to NG Tester.

Doch was genau bedeutet Barrierefreiheit für digitale Angebote? Und wie werden diese entwickelt und getestet?

Title of presentation: Automatisation – Des robots pour tester les objets connectés?
Day of presentation: 16 April 2021
Time (CET): 17:00
Language: French
Abstract:

Abstract:
Until now, analytical skills have been the key for understanding companies and their business processes in order to optimize them with support from IT. Today, however, technology is increasingly driving completely new, innovative services and entirely new business models, which are subsumed under the buzzword: digital transformation. To support this kind of digitalization, you need additional design and technical skills as well as the ability to understand digital business models and to guide teams to design the best digital solution. To meet this need, IREB has launched a new certification – the Digital Design Professional – in close collaboration with recognized experts in traditional product design, digitization experts from industry, and universities.
In addition to design and technology (digital material), the qualification as a digital design professional also includes relevant cross-cutting competencies that foster the understanding of economic and social aspects in order to design the digital solution as a whole and to be able to control the entire building process of the digital solution from a design perspective.

Testing Strategies for Microservice-based Web Applications in a DevOps framework
Day of presentation: 13 April 2021
Time (CET): 19:00
Language: English
Abstract:
In recent years, the evolution of IT has spanned several dimensions: development process, application architecture, distribution and packaging, application infrastructure, and so on. Overall, this evolution allows us to exploit the so-called “shift-left” from the testing perspective. However, this opportunity can only be exploited by developing a testing strategy that actually addresses all the challenges posed by this evolution. During this talk, we will describe the main challenges for defining an effective “continuous” testing strategy for Microservice-based web applications within a DevOps framework and how to address those challenges. We will focus in particular on Microservices integration tests: in fact, the biggest complexity in a Microservice architecture is not within the individual Microservices, but in the way they interact with each other: traditional approaches (“broad integration”) do not work within the specified framework and more modern approaches are needed.

Title of Presentation: The ‘Need-to-Know’ on Cyber Security – a Lifecycle Approach
Day of presentation: 13 April 2021
Time (CET): 13:00
Language: English
Abstract:
It is a well-known fact that adequate security cannot be patched-in but must be built into a product. Activities that ensure product security therefore must not only accompany the entire life cycle of that product, they also must precede it. Training of project staff in security should be completed before product development starts. Anyone who plays a key-role in the project must at least know the basics of how to develop systems with an adequate level of security. Better even, if anybody also knows how to perform role- and project-phase-specific security tasks. The A4Q Security Essentials syllabus therefore follows a life cycle approach in teaching IT-security.
The presentation addresses the general and role-specific ‘need-to-knows’ on secure development for a typical software project and gives an overview on how these are addressed in the A4Q Security Essentials syllabus and training materials.

Abstract:
DevOps has crossed the chasm, and many organizations across different industries have adopted DevOps is one form or the other as a panacea to digital transformation. As per the accelerate State of DevOps 2019 report, high performing companies who are successful in software delivery and operational performance „start with the foundations and then adopt a continuous improvement mindset by identifying unique constraints (or a set of constraints). Once these constraints to longer hold them back, repeat the process.“
Our Certified DevOps portfolio provides the breadth of knowledge and best practices currently applied by high performing organizations to build the software delivery and operational performance capability holistically. This portfolio helps to understand key challenges and drivers for DevOps adoption, principles, and practices to be used throughout the journey, and the capabilities that would remove the constraints and continuously improve the value delivery.

Title of presentation: Der Glaubenskrieg um die Testautomatisierung
Day of presentation: 14 April 2021
Time (CET): 15:00
Language: German
Abstract:

Day of presentation: 14 April 2021
Time (CET): 17:00
Language: German
Abstract:

With the increasing move towards greater business agility, particularly over the last year when it became almost mandatory, there has been a shift in the role of the Test Manager and arguably all testing roles. Some frameworks do not even mention testing roles.
- No longer is it just the test professionals that do testing
- No longer do we just discover defects, but we do practices that prevent them happening (shift left)
- No longer are we the “quality police” but the whole team that has responsibility for quality
So what are we doing? This is a great opportunity for Test Managers (and all test professionals) to grow their competencies and learn new skills. Rather than looking vertically for career growth, add specialist skills that make you more cross functional. Yes there are roles for us, but they look different.

Day of presentation: 14 April 2021
Time (CET): 11:00
Language: German
Abstract:

Title of presentation: Encouraging children into software testing
Day of presentation: 13 April 2021
Time (CET): 14:00
Language: English
Abstract:
The presentation explains that we should get children to start with software testing because otherwise we only get coding skills started at an early age, and as we know, software testing is also needed. Then we discuss how children learn. What kind of measures can be used: playing, remembering, identifying with, exploring. Then I present one solution, my fantasy book about software testing for children. This book was released in Finnish in 2020 and will be release in English shortly. I go through some examples of how fantasy can represent software testing: dragons are defects, knights are developers and testers… I will also describe my journey of writing and publishing a testing book for children – something unique.
There is also a 5-minute part that discusses different defects people have experienced and transform them into dragons. Everyone gets to draw a dragon/defect.
Society needs these IT and testing skills. There is a persistent lack of both programming and testing skills on the job market. As one solution, we need to make software testing skills available to children, too. This will have positive long-term impact on availability of testing skills. So, we need to bring software testing into the attention of children, who are interested in code. If they get into coding, their better understanding of testing will help them to be better developers. They also might become software testers, adding into the honorable profession of software testers.
For some children, and adults, too, the software testing may be their best, most viable way into the fascinating world of information technology. They should have solid software testing skills. It all starts with awareness and understanding of software testing.
After this presentation, the participants will have a thirst to spread knowledge of testing to children, starting with the Creative Commons licensed presentation based on the book, or the book itself.
I will share the presentation to everyone. I’ll also share some extracts of the book to everyone and promise a book prize for the most active participant (to be sent when the book is published).

Abstract:
Agile may sometimes use to denote any kind of “dynamic” or “unstructured” way of working with others. But, this term more commonly suggests a focused yet rapidly iterative software process that follows the principles of agile manifesto.
However, in the modern world of agile testing and automation, the scope of the application testing is diversified in factors such as, complex business scenarios, complex data structure, multiple test deployment environments, Test execution environments (Cross browser, cross platform, cross device etc.), communication and notification among geographically distributed agile teams etc. This factors mostly effecting the rapid delivery of agile principles.
The presentation is designed for new or seasoned software developers and testers to understand how agile testers could collaborate together with DevOps to help resolve most of the rapid delivery challenges. The main features of the ecosystem covers modern automation requirements such as Social tools, Continuous integration, on-demand Test management and environment provisioning, Cross device and Browser on cloud.

Abstract:
Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, Continuous Deployment, testing in the agile team, Unittest – everywhere one meets “the test”. But what does that actually mean – “the test”? In this lecture, we want to introduce some topics that a developer will also encounter in the various projects on the topic of testing and show how developers can improve the quality of code and architecture.
But often the necessary test expertise is missing in the development team. The brand-new course “Testing Foundations for Developers” (A4Q-TF4D), a cooperation between A4Q and the GTB, provides a remedy here.

Day of presentation: 16 April 2021
Time (CET): 17:00
Language: French
Abstract:

You and your team give your best to test a software product, work a lot of overtime and think of elaborate ways to test it and yet, in the end, when it goes live your expectations of great quality are not met? The product that is now live turns out to be a failure rather than the success you expected. Your reputation is ruined and you feel guilty and not quite the professional you thought you were. We all try to find the mistakes in ourselves – you review the process, the test cases, the documentation and your actions, trying to figure out what you did wrong?
Believe me, It is not always up to you and to your team when a product fails. The signs your testing is not enough are numerous and difficult to be found and yet, every professional must be aware of those pitfalls. Though diverse, there are around 10 frequently seen reasons why your testing is not enough.
I will briefly describe some of the most frequent I have encountered during my career. Hope you enjoy the presentation and find it useful.”

Abstract:

Title of presentation: The Reality Distortion Field of Testing
Day of presentation: 13 April 2021
Time (CET): 18:00
Language: English
Abstract:
The Reality Distortion Field (RDF) was a term coined by Bud Tribble at Apple Computers in 1981 to describe Steve Job’s charisma and its effect on the developers working on the Macintosh project. The RDF was said to be Steve Job’s ability to convince himself and others to believe almost anything with a mix of charm, charisma, bravado, marketing, appeasement and persistence. RDF is said to distort an audience’s sense of proportion and scales of difficulties and made them believe that the task in hand was possible.
When it comes to testing we have this RDF all around us from managers to so called “experts” saying things like:
- We can and should automate everything
- We can be much more effective and productive when we work on multiple projects
- We need to provide lots of evidence to demonstrate the thoroughness of our testing
- Testers need to become developers
- There is a need for good test estimates
If we say things for long enough and with enough passion we convince ourselves and other people will eventually start to believe us even when indicators prove differently. There is a thin dividing line between “having a vision” and “being deluded”, “convincing others” and “conning others”. Hopefully this session will challenge what we believe to be right for us, to be able to think for ourselves and to be able to discern what is needed for us to be successful.

Title of presentation: Being a Human Tester in a Digital World!
Day of presentation: 15 April 2021
Time (CET): 22:00
Language: English
Abstract:
The world is changing rapidly, technology advances in the blink of an eye, systems are getting more and more complex, and businesses need to ‘innovate’ to remain competitive in this challenging world. This brings out ’Software Tester 2.0′ model which defines the evolving role of a software tester in the era of Complexity, Digitalization (IoT, AI, AR/VR), Agility and User Centricity.
In this challenging era, customer needs are also changing rapidly. Therefore, companies should change the way they think, the way they initiate and manage the change in their organizations. They need to adapt to change, focus on strategy, value and innovation. For this reason, the role of Software Tester stands at the heart of the future success for companies. For the last few decades, software testing is one of the fastest growing market instruments in the IT world, so as test automation. As more and more complex applications go into production; traditional software testing approaches failed to fulfill the needs, consequently organizations are looking for smart and easy solutions to address their testing requirements, especially in the new era of Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and User Experience (UX).
My session is designed to assist software testers to carry out paradigm shifts in their mindset about Software Testing and Software Tester’s role. The session will hopefully help attendees to set the practical standards for the future of software testing profession, with a special focus on User Centricity, User Experience (UX) and Usability Testing.

Title of presentation: Herausforderungen beim Einsatz von KI in sicherheitskritischen Produkten
Day of presentation: 14 April 2021
Time (CET): 10:00
Language: German
Abstract:

Title of presentation: Mijn eerste 20 jaren in software testen – geïnfecteerd door kwaliteit
Day of presentation: 14 April 2021
Time (CET): 17:00
Language: Dutch
Abstract:

Title of presentation: Der Glaubenskrieg um die Testautomatisierung
Day of presentation: 14 April 2021
Time (CET): 15:00
Language: German
Abstract:

Abstract:

Title of presentation: Key features and benefits of TickITplus
Day of presentation: 13 April 2021
Time (CET): 20:00

Abstract:
All ISO standards are flat, i.e. they do not offer the ability to assess process maturity, which is a key component of measuring process improvement, which is a requirement of all management standards. Process maturity principles have been around for some considerable time with concepts being developed by Deming in the 50’s through schemes and models evolving in the early 80’s such as SPICE and CMM to standards like ISO 15504 for maturity models and assessments in the 90’s. Many organisations strive towards ISO 9001 as a requirement of contracts and/or through internal desires to standardise and improve their processes, improvements are typically seen through increase in business performance, the changes in process characteristics are rarely measured, known and reported. TickITplus aims to combine the benefits realised from the ISO standards with the value obtained by understanding the level of process maturity. Understanding the maturity of a process allows prioritised and focused improvements to be identified where low maturity processes are adversely affecting the overall set of business processes. TickITplus has been designed to incorporate some unique concepts on process management based on many years of the successful use of the TickIT scheme and modern thinking in the how management system aim to benefit business performance. This talk provides an overview of TickITplus scheme, what it is, how it has been designed and the benefits that organisations can expect to achieve by adopting it.

Title of presentation: Rules of Engagement – Questions you need to ask yourself before implementing test automation
Day of presentation: 15 April 2021
Time (CET): 09:00
Language: Polish
Abstract:
Why are there so many projects with poorly implemented test automation?
Nowadays Automation is a given part of almost any IT project. But there are still a lot of projects where automation is not bringing value, with teams and especially managers who got disillusioned, because there is more hassle with automation that it’s worth.
In my Experience, one of the most obvious yet overlooked reasons for failure of automation is simple lack of forethought. There are many important questions that teams need to answer for automation to be able to efficiently automate.
The list is long, starting with simple yet not easy questions like: What is The goal of automation? What problems the team tries to fix? Or to be even more mundane: Who will write the test? What team will do when the test fails? And ending with the hard ones: How does the team know if they are bringing value? And What should be Automated?
This talk is not about finding answers for those questions. Each team has different needs and will have different answers. The goal of this talk is to provide you with a checklist of questions. so you can engage your team and together find the answers working for you.
Key Takeaways
- A checklist of questions worth asking.
- Participants will learn about priorities which questions need answers as soon as possible and which can wait.
- For most important questions, example answers will be presented.
- Emphasis will be put on the fact that answers may change as project growths
